The village lies at the foot of Monte Nerone in a pristine environment, where woods, pastures, hot and cold spring waters and pure air make it an ideal place for holidays and relaxing walks.
"Apecchio è un paese che esercita un forte incantesimo su chi ama la quiete, la buona salute e la gioia di vivere" (Apecchio is a town that has a strong enchantment on those seeking peace, good health and joy of living - cited from "Quando c'erano le torri", C. Berliocchi).

Numerous town monuments, including the Ubaldini palace, the clock tower and the humpback bridge recall ancient history and past civilizations that have left their mark.
Mushrooms and precious truffles grow naturally in the surrounding woodlands and are used in the local refined cuisine which is rich in these natural flavours and fragrances.

The origin of "La Rocca" is also uncertain as no documentation has been found.
The only information up to the present time originates from the Bishop's archive in the neighbouring town of Città di Castello, under which the domain of Apecchio once belonged.
These archives state that at the beginning of the 13th century "La Rocca", due to its prominent position, was used to defend the village of Apecchio from the attack of invaders.
"Fino alla seconda guerra mondiale era ben visibile il grosso rudere della torre, che in località appunto "La Rocca" dominava la vallata verso Città di Castello" (Up until the Second World War the ruins of the big tower were clearly visible at the "La Rocca" location, dominating the valley which led to Città di Castello - cited from "Quando c'erano le torri", C. Berliocchi).
The property contained a sandstone farmhouse near the medieval tower. During the ancient years the farmhouse was inhabited by noble families who left a noteworthy inscription on the building that can still be seen today.
The wide-ranging property was then inhabited by working families, "sharecroppers", that practiced sheep-farming and agriculture, and led a self-sufficient existence. This practice was carried out for centuries, interrupted only in the 1960s with the advent of industrialization leaving "La Rocca" abandoned to its fate.
I bought the property in 2005 and it was then that "La Rocca" came "back to life" thanks to my passion, dedication and desire to make it a unique place of peace and serenity.
